Google Rolls Out Search Plus Your World:

Tampa SEO Discusses

In the latest news from the search engine leader Google has recently released its “Search Plus Your World” format. This personalized search feature delivers content to you that is either shared with you privately along with results from the public web, all mixed together for your viewing pleasure. If you do not already see the feature it will likely be revealed to you in the coming days. It also only works for those who are signed into Google and searching in English.

Why the Change in Results?

The change marks the ongoing trend with the web in which everything has become more personalized and catered to the individual user. The Search Plus Your World features include two tabs that indicate “Show Personal Results” and a tab that says “Hide Personal Results,” something that many users have wanted for quite some time.  “The social search algorithm, and the personalized search algorithm are actually one algorithm now, and we are merging it in a way that is very pleasant and useful,” said Amit Singhal, who oversees Google’s ranking algorithm.

What You’ll Find

Google indicated on their blog that although they have always been about finding the best results for you, the Search Plus Your World marks a time when results are even more personalized. Users will find results from the public web blended in with things that Google knows you care about such as personal content or things shared with you by the people you care about. Google quotes:

“We’re transforming Google into a search engine that understands not only content, but also people and relationships.”

The three new features that are part of the change are:

  1. Personal Results– These results will deliver information that is just for you like Google+ photos and posts. These will be from your own +1’s and those pages that are shared specifically with you.
  2. Profiles in Search– Other friends or relationships that Google deems relevant to you, will show up in the autocomplete and the search results. They will be producing results that enable you to find people that you are close to or might be interested in following.
  3. People and Pages– Google says that “behind most every query is a community” and this feature helps you find people profiles and Google+ pages related to a specific topic or area of interest.

Does This Include Shared Content from Other Social Media?

Search Plus Your World currently does not produce content from Facebook, or Twitter, or any other social network. The short of it is these services do not permit Google to crawl them and store things. Therefore the results will only reflect things that you have searched and people you are connected with via Google+ or that content Google feels you may be interested in.
